Counselling
Can We Help You?
Everyone needs a little help from time to time. Perhaps you feel you ought to be able to cope with your feelings but are finding them too much. You may be feeling overwhelmed, sad, anxious, angry or confused.
- The demands of work, relationships, families, caring for someone and finances can all make it difficult to cope
- You might have experienced bereavement or another loss
- You might be struggling with your sense of identity, self-confidence, health or direction
- We offer counselling for individual adults and couples
During our long experience as counsellors we have worked with people from diverse backgrounds who have brought a broad range of presenting problems. Click here to read more about us.
What is Counselling?
There may come a point at which even the well-meaning support of those around you is not enough. We are trained to
- Offer you a warm, supportive and professional relationship in which to explore the challenges facing you
- Work with you to make sense of the problems and what underlies them
- Help you find a way ahead that fits with your values and lifestyle

How much will it cost?
We offer you a one hour assessment meeting at no charge.
Following this, ongoing individual counselling sessions cost £55; couples' counselling sessions cost £65. We aim to be responsive to peoples' different financial situations and in some circumstances we may be able to offer a reduction in cost. Do please talk to us about this.
How long does it take?
Each counselling session lasts for 50 minutes. The number of sessions can vary according to individual needs and preferences. We offer either in-depth open-ended counselling or an agreed number of sessions focusing on very specific issues.
What can I expect in the assessment meeting?
We use the assessment meeting for us to find out more about you and what brings you for counselling; and for you to find out more about us and our way of working, to see if this is what suits your requirements. We ask about what has brought you for counselling now, and to give us an overview of your life history.
Confidentiality
Knowing that what you say remains confidential is very important. We undertake to keep your personal details and the content of our sessions together confidential. This means we do not talk, or write, about you and your situation outside of Five Valleys Counselling Practice
We adhere to the requirements of the Data Protection Act and the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
In exceptional circumstances our duty of care may require us to be in contact with another professional, in line with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
Booking an assessment meeting
Sessions are available in-person, via Zoom, or by phone. Booking an appointment is straightforward and we will respond to you within one working day. You can complete our counselling application form here or ring us on 01453 297040.
